Even though summer is almost half way over, it’s never to late to be reminded of summer safety tips!
Water Safety
- Learn to swim. The best thing anyone can do to stay safe in and around water is to learn to swim.
- Use the buddy system. Always swim with a buddy, never alone
- Swim in supervised areas only and obey all rules and posted signs
- Don’t mix alcohol and swimming
Beach Safety
- Protect your skin with sunscreen containing a high rating such as 15
- Drink plenty of water regularly and often even if you don’t feel thirsty
- Wear eye protection, such as sunglasses, that indicate that they absorb at least 90% of UV sunlight
- Wear foot protection
Boating Safety
- Be sure to have plenty life jackets on board
- Learn to swim
- Let others know when/where you will be boating
Home Pool Safety
- Never leave a child unobserved around water
- Always keep basic lifesaving equipment by the pool and know how to use it
- Keep toys away from the pool when it is not in use
- Pool covers should always be completely removed prior to pool use
Hiking and Camping Safety
- Review your equipment and supplies that you will need
- Be sure to make reservations and obtain any permits you may need for campgrounds
- Pack emergency signaling devices
Picnic Tips
- Beware of Insect Stings – if you have known allergies to insect stings, be sure to carry your insect sting kit and avoid wearing clothing with floral patterns that may attract insects.
- Ticks – if you find a tick, remove it by pulling steadily and firmly.
- Keep cold foods cold
- Grills – keep children away from grills and lighter fluid
